Fail

If you’ve been trying to visit my blog over the past couple of days you’ll know there have been some problems. I started having server issues. It would take forever to load the blog and I couldn’t log in. I kept getting messages that I could not connect to the server or the server is not responding. I contacted my hosting service and they started working on it. We thought it was fixed late last night but I was still unable to log in this morning. So after a couple more e-mails I can say everything is back up and running.

I can’t begin to tell you how frustrating it’s been not being able to update my blog. If you’re following me on twitter you’ll know how frustrated I was. Rest assured, I am still here and I’ll have new blog posts very soon.

photo-1I got it. Stopped off at the Apple store after work to pick up a copy of Snow Leopard – Mac OS 10.6. When I got there the store was packed. It’s always busy, but the line up of people wanting to pay for stuff was ridiculous.

cs3There’s been an update to the story I reported yesterday concerning the compatibility of CS3 and Apple’s upcoming Snow Leopard OS. John Nack has again updated his blog about the issue.

It turns out that the Photoshop team has tested Photoshop CS3 on Snow Leopard, and to the best of our knowledge, PS CS3 works fine on Snow Leopard.

This is a soap opera. First it wasn’t tested and wouldn’t be supported, then it will be supported but wasn’t tested, and now it has been tested and should work fine. Which is it? No mater, we’ll find out tomorrow when Snow Leopard goes on sale.

And yes, I have decided to upgrade to Snow Leopard and take my chances with Photoshop not working as I’ve come accustomed too. If it stops working properly I just learn to use Aperture a little more efficiently. No big deal.

MACPC

Apple is out with another one of its “Get A Mac” ads. This time enlisting the help of funny man Patrick Warburton (David Puddy from Seinfeld). The ad follows the same recipe as its predecessors – make fun of PC’s security, crashing, operating system, and anything else.

While the new ad is mildly amusing, the whole campaign is growing old. Yes it’s tried and true, and sure it’s been a huge success – but it’s time for Apple to come up with something new. The reason this campaign was so successful in the first place was because it was different. It portrayed Apple as young, hip, fun, fresh and new. Well there is nothing fresh and new about it lately. Take a look and let me know what you think.

It’s said that “Necessity is the mother of invention”. Those words have never been more true then they are when it comes to this invention by London design student Lee Washington. He – like millions of us out there – got fed up with his headphones getting all tangled up, so he went out and did something about it. Using the principles behind ziplock bags, he invented headphones that sick together when not in use. Thus eliminating messy tangles. Washington is now exploring how to patent the idea.

Without further adieu, here is Washington’s ziplock headphones demonstration video…

As a photographer I understand the importance of backing up work on a regular basis. After I finish a shoot I have a regular routine so that if something should happen, I shouldn’t lose all my hard work. However, my practices can apply to anyone using computers for work or even just for fun.

If you’ve been following me on Twitter (MeadorsMusings) you’ll know why I haven’t posted in a couple of days. I was working away on some pictures and my battery was getting low. I plugged the MacBook Pro in and noticed the little light on the power cord where it connects to the computer didn’t come on. So I made sure the power bar was on and that it was connected properly. Still nothing. So it was off to the Apple Store today.

MicrosoftWordYou can count on Microsoft fighting this ruling. A Texas judge has ruled Microsoft must stop selling Word within 60 days. Toronto based i4i Inc. won an injunction against Microsoft regarding the company’s XML patents. According to i4i Inc. it means …

the injunction “prohibits Microsoft from selling or importing to the United States any Microsoft Word products that have the capability of opening .XML, .DOCX or DOCM files (XML files) containing custom XML

Microsoft plans to appeal the decision. Earlier this year, i4i Inc was awarded $200-million in damages in the same case by a jury. Microsoft has also appealed that decision.

Of note, i4i Inc. sells XML products for Word, so you’d think some sort of agreement will be worked out.

We went to Hawrelak Park this afternoon to enjoy the annual Heritage Festival in Edmonton. It was lots of fun with a lot of great food and entertainment. Of course I had my iPhone and so I shot some of the sights and sounds using Cycorder. If you have a chance to take in the Edmonton Heritage Festival, I highly recommend it. Enjoy my video.
