I’ve been using the new Facebook app on my iPhone for a day now. I did not like it at first. I hated the main screen as seen above, and I hated all the screen touches I needed to get to certain areas of Facebook. That’s why I waited a day before giving you a review.
There are still things I don’t like about Facebook 3.0 – but the list is a lot smaller than 24 hours ago. First here is a list of all the changes included in the update. [via Facebook]
- See your upcoming Events and RSVP
- See your friends’ birthdays
- See Pages and post updates and photos to Pages you administer
- Write Notes and read your friends’ Notes
- Upload videos from an iPhone 3GS
- Upload photos to any album
- Complete photo management (create albums, delete albums, delete photos, delete photo tags)
- Change your Profile Picture
- Zoom into photos
- Like posts and photos
- See the same News Feed as the Facebook website
- Visit links in a built-in web browser
- See all of your friends’ friends and Pages
- See mutual friends
- Easily search for people and Pages
- Make friend requests
- Become a fan of Pages
- Quickly call or text your friends
- Create shortcuts to your favorite friends and Pages
- Friends sorted by first or last name according to your settings
- Chat friends sorted alphabetically
Wow! It’s no wonder this version feels more like the web based Facebook as far as features go.

What I’m really enjoying is the photo management. I can now create and delete albums, and I can delete pictures and photo tags. It’s also really nice to be able to change my profile picture.
Another cool feature is the ability to call and text your friends if they have their phone numbers entered. If you’re using an iPhone 3GS, you’ll also be able to upload videos to Facebook from your phone. I also like the events tab. It shows events that are coming up and lets you also see when your friends birthdays are. It’s super simple.
One of the features I don’t like – which I think the old version did better is the News Feed. When you open it, you guessed it, it opens the News Feed. I’m not a fan of it – I like to go straight to Status Updates. Now you have to scroll through and select it. It takes a little longer, and I don’t see any way to add Status Updates to the main screen (which can be customized a little).
That’s my biggest complaint with the new Facebook after 24 hours. Everything else I’ve gotten used to really quick and I actually now really enjoy many aspects of the new interface. So I would definitely recommend to everyone using Facebook on their iPhones to update to 3.0. It’ll take a little getting used to, but you’ll enjoy it in the end.
