With news of a possible November launch date for the iPhone on Bell, also comes news those iPhones will be un-jailbreakable for now. According to iClarified Apple is now shipping iPhone 3GS’ with a new Bootrom that is no longer vulnerable to the 24kpwn exploit.

It’s believed the iBoot-359.3.2 started shipping last week. Mathieulh posted a screenshot via twitter that shows the new version – and MuscleNerd from the Dev-Team confirmed the loss of the 24kpwn exploit. What this means is that if you still don’t have a 3GS and you’re interested in jailbreaking you’ll need to try to find older stock (which will be difficult in Canada) or you may want to try a refurbished unit. Of course you could also just wait until a new exploit is found.

While Apple has said in the past Jailbreaking is illegal and this update follows in line with that stance – MobileCrunch has a little different take on the situation. It may be due to App piracy.

While jailbreaking allows for countless wonderful (but otherwise disallowed) apps to run on the iPhone, it also allows cracked versions of paid applications to be installed. As a result, piracy is mind-blowingly, soul-crushingly rampant on the iPhone. Many iPhone developers – such as those behind the popular IM client, Beejive – are reporting that 80 percent of their users are pirates. Yep. For every 10 users on Beejive, 8 of them didn’t pay for it. I’m no saint myself, and all of us here fully understand that a download does not equal a lost sale – but when 80% of the people using your app (and in Beejive’s case, your servers) aren’t paying to keep the lights on, it’s likely seen as a big issue.

I’m interested to know how many of you have ever installed a cracked app. I won’t lie, I did once. I used a cracked version of Let’s Golf. The more I used it, the more I felt it was wrong. So I did purchase a legit copy of it from the app store. Let me now if you’re still using cracked apps and if so why or why not.
