It would appear Apple may indeed have wanted or plans to add a camera to the iPod Touch. The folks at ifixit have done their usual teardown of new devices and found evidence to suggest a camera is on its way.

While taking the new iPod Touch apart, ifixit noticed a small space at the top where the rumoured camera was supposed to go.

it appears that Apple left in room for a camera in the top of the device. There is a 6mm x 6mm x 3mm space between the Broadcom chip and the wireless antenna. There isn’t enough depth for an iPhone-style autofocus still camera, but just enough room for the camera that Apple used in the 5th generation iPod nano.

Perhaps the plan was to add the same camera into the Touch that is now in the Nano – and that the rumours of it being pulled late because of poor quality were true. Time will tell. For now this will remain a hot topic, much like the iTablet. Stay tuned.
