UPDATE: So I was just thinking about the wording – and I think the key is “Buy your iPhone from Apple commitment-free.” So my take is you pay the full price for the phone from Apple and it comes unlocked. If you buy the phone from one of our wireless providers with the subsidized price, it will be locked to that carrier for the duration of the contract. Of course if you pay to get out of your contract early you could probably get the phone unlocked at that point as well.
The Canadian Apple online store is once again live. And it offers some interesting information about the iPhone 4 here in Canada.
Yes, we can’t pre-order it yet, but the above picture seems to indicate the iPhone 4 will be unlocked, or at least Apple will unlock it for you if you want to change carriers.
The caption from the website reads ….
It works with the carrier of your choice. Buy an iPhone from the Apple Online Store and choose your own GSM carrier. You can change carriers at any time.
This could also mean Apple will unlock your your current 3G or 3GS. Almost all our wireless providers currently offer the iPhone, so I’ve been speculating for a while now that this could lead to an unlocked phone here in Canada.
I’ll update the story as more information becomes available. But for right now it appears as though us Canadians might have to wait a little longer for the iPhone 4, but it will be worth the wait.
It’s now October and nearly one month since I bought my first iPhone 3GS. You can read all about my iPhone woes HERE and HERE . I said I’d wait a couple of weeks before trying my luck at a fifth 3GS. So is it time to head back to the Apple store? I want to hear from you. When do you think – is it the right time for me to try my luck again?
Just to recap – I purchased a white 32gb iPhone 3GS on Sunday from the Apple Store. Except when I got home I noticed it had 5 hairline cracks near the speakers and 1 near the headphone jack. So the next morning I returned to the Apple Store at opening.
I was so excited today. I finally had enough money to upgrade my iPhone 3G to the iPhone 3GS. I made my personal shopping appointment, got the 32gb version in white and came home. Then I noticed the hairline cracks. I had read about these with the 3G and the 3GS – but thought it wasn’t all that common. I was wrong. 5 cracks or whatever they are along the bottom near the speakers. There is also one by the headphone jack.
Just days after Purplera1n was released for Windows users – the iPhone 3GS jailbreaking program is now available for the Mac. You can download Purplera1n here. Once jailbroken you can unlock your 3GS and use it on any GSM carrier with ultrsn0w. Please use it at your own risk. As I mention when the Windows version was released, I take no responsibility for any problems you might have with your phone after using the software mentioned above.
There’s no doubt you can find just about anything for sale on ebay. I happen to be looking at the iPhone 3GS listings when I came across a seller claiming to have a prototype version of the phone.
There is a lot of exciting news for iPhone 3GS owners today as it relates to jailbreaking and unlocking. It’s now possible! But – the software isn’t being released by the Dev-Team.
There is good and bad news for iPhone 3GS owners waiting to be able to jailbreak and unlock their phones. The Dev Team says it can be done, but they will not be releasing the software any time soon.
One of the great new features of the iPhone 3GS is its ability to shoot video (VGA up to 30 fps with audio) - and do it really well. From all the video demonstrations on YouTube it is easy to see the video quality is really good for a phone. So that got me thinking – what about those of us with the iPhone 3G or the first generation iPhone. What options do we have? Well there is an App available on Cydia for jailbroken phones called Cycorder. It allows the iPhone to shoot video. But what’s the quality like? I put it to the test this afternoon and was very surprised with the results.
