photo-1If you’re an iPhone user that jailbreaks or unlocks your phone, there’s good news as it relates to Apple’s new OS – Snow Leopard. The Dev-Team says upgrade away – it causes no problem with the process. Here’s what the Dev-Team has posted on its blog

  • You can use redsn0w to jailbreak any iPhone or iPod Touch using OS X, Windows, or Linux.  For both 3.0 and 3.0.1 firmwares, you should point redsn0w at the 3.0 IPSW.  If you see it hang at “waiting for reboot”, just unplug and replug that USB cable.
  • You can use ultrasn0w to unlock the iPhone 3G/3GS, or BootNeuter to unlock the iPhone 2G.  Both ultrasn0w and BootNeuter are available via Cydia.
  • You can use PwnageTool for Mac to create custom IPSWs with pre-installed packages.

These finds gets me excited about the possibility of an Apple tablet that can run Mac OS X. The folks over at Cult Of Mac point out a few new features in Snow Leopard that would be ideal for a larger touchscreen device.

photo-1I got it. Stopped off at the Apple store after work to pick up a copy of Snow Leopard – Mac OS 10.6. When I got there the store was packed. It’s always busy, but the line up of people wanting to pay for stuff was ridiculous.

cs3There’s been an update to the story I reported yesterday concerning the compatibility of CS3 and Apple’s upcoming Snow Leopard OS. John Nack has again updated his blog about the issue.

It turns out that the Photoshop team has tested Photoshop CS3 on Snow Leopard, and to the best of our knowledge, PS CS3 works fine on Snow Leopard.

This is a soap opera. First it wasn’t tested and wouldn’t be supported, then it will be supported but wasn’t tested, and now it has been tested and should work fine. Which is it? No mater, we’ll find out tomorrow when Snow Leopard goes on sale.

And yes, I have decided to upgrade to Snow Leopard and take my chances with Photoshop not working as I’ve come accustomed too. If it stops working properly I just learn to use Aperture a little more efficiently. No big deal.

malware

This screenshot is making the rounds online – it apparently shows the brakes being slammed on a DMG download by Safari from the new Snow Leopard OS being released Friday. If true, it would indicate Apple’s next version of OS X is being shipped with a malware blocker. I can already hear the laughter from PC users. For years Apple has told people  buying a PC means needing plenty of anti-virus extras – and that buying a Mac, well, you don’t. Although you’ll find this on Apple’s website …

The Mac is designed with built-in technologies that provide protection against malicious software and security threats right out of the box. However, since no system can be 100 percent immune from every threat, antivirus software may offer additional protection.

Of course we all know there have been a number of widely publicizes security vulnerabilities associated with Mac OS X, but really, it’s so much less than PC. So in a way, if Apple is including some sort of malware protection within Snow Leopard, then all Mac users should be happy – as long as Apple keeps it up to date. You can never be too careful. We’ll find out if it’s all true when Snow Leopard is released Friday.

SnowLeopard

UPDATE – Snow Leopard WILL be available at Apple retail stores in Canada on Friday. It’s the same for the U.S. Just read the Canadian news release from Apple.

Apple today announced that Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard will go on sale Friday, August 28 at Apple’s retail stores and Apple Authorized Resellers, and that Apple’s online store is now accepting pre-orders. Snow Leopard builds on a decade of OS X innovation and success with hundreds of refinements, new core technologies and out of the box support for Microsoft Exchange. Snow Leopard will be available as an upgrade for Mac OS X Leopard users for $35.

Apple’s online store was down briefly this morning. That usually means an update to its products – and sure enough, you can now pre-order your copy of Snow Leopard. It’s the next generation of Apple’s Mac OS X – which will be 10.6.

A single use copy of Snow Leopard will run you $35 ($29 U.S.) or $59 ($49 U.S.) for a 5-user Family Pack. What’s not 100% sure for us in Canada is when it’ll be delivered. The Apple site says it will be shipped by this Friday – August 28th. For those in the U.S. Apple says it will be delivered on Friday.

In any case I’ll just wait until it arrives at the Apple Store – which is usually the same day it’s scheduled for delivery.
